Time to Recharge!
“Now the God of peace, who brought up from the dead, the great Shepherd of the sheep through the blood of the eternal covenant, even Jesus our Lord, equip you in every good thing to do His will, working in us that which is pleasing in His sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be the glory forever and ever. Amen.” (Heb. 13:20-21 NASB)
Wow that is a mouth full, isn't it men? To be equipped with every good thing, and for what purpose? To do His will. Men, until we are whole we cannot minister effectively to others. So as you have heard me say many times before, we need to be equipped before we engage in the battle.
Now we have talked in the past about being grounded, and what that means. For those of us that are new to Christianity, being grounded in the Word of God is the most important thing we can do. For those of us that are living the life by following Christ, and allowing Him to be Lord of our life, we need time to recharge. You know men the best batteries in the world need to be plugged in periodically, and recharged to sustain any kind of power.
Why is it we think we can continually give and not take time to allow the Holy Spirit to recharge us? Burnout is one of the most effective ways the enemy takes us out. Don't get me wrong, that’s not the only way, but for dedicated followers its right up there in his to-do list! No one escapes this threat, new Christians or mature ones. New Christians never want to say no, when asked to step up and do Gods work. Older, more seasoned, Christ-followers are apt to do the same thing; the word is, over commit.
Our Lord, in His infinite wisdom, knows how important it is for us to rest as well as work. He does not want us overloaded, but rather balanced in all we do. I believe this devotional has come to mind at this time because it is the first weekend in October and time for our annual Hearts Alive & Free (HA&F) men's event. It’s always the first weekend in October; yes, you guessed it hunting season.
I can't tell you how many men chose hunting, but decided two or three years later to go to the HA&F retreat instead, and said, “Joe why didn't I do this sooner?” You see men, this event is all about restoration, recharging, finding out exactly who God has created you to be. It’s about getting out the junk and putting you on the path to freedom. God doesn’t want you in bondage; only the enemy does. Do not make any agreements with the enemy. You are a child of God, as a believer, sealed and protected. His Holy Spirit dwells in you as a believer. Jesus heals all wounds, and He is the One that sets us free.
So in order to allow Him to do His work in us we need to be grounded, recharged and rested so we can engage in the battle against the enemy. Because it is the work He does in us that allows us to accomplish all we do! He receives all the glory, all the time!
So I leave you with this until next week, as He continues to do a work in me. I am heading for a God encounter and a recharging that I need. (http://www.heartsaliveandfree.com)
