The Works That I Do, He Will Do Also!
"Truly, truly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do, he will do also; and greater works than these he will do; because I go to the Father. Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it." (John 14:12-14 NASB)
Men, lets attempt to dig into the Word of God and understand the meaning of John 14:12-14. Truly, truly, I say to you; First off, if God repeats a word be sure to take note that His next statement is very important. Now He is addressing the disciples at this time, attempting to teach them an important lesson which requires their full attention.
He who believes in Me; He is telling His disciples that this message is for believers, those that truly have accepted Him as Savior.
The works that I do, he will do also; As believers we will be able to do the same works, miracles that Jesus has done ( through the power of the Holy Spirit). I'm sure they were all looking at each other and saying, “Yeah right, no problem, come on that's not possible!” If that wasn't enough He then follows it up with this statement;
And greater works than these he will do; Greater works than Jesus our Savior? No way, impossible! "This does not weaken the argument Christ had taken from his works, to prove himself one with the Father (that others should do as great works), but rather strengthens it; for the miracles which the apostles wrought were wrought in his name, and by faith in him; and this magnifies his power more than any thing, that he not only wrought miracles himself, but gave power to others to do so too.” (Matthew Henry)
Because I go to the Father; As Jesus went to His Father in Heaven (in prayer), while He was here on earth, so it will be as He is in Heaven with His Father. He will ask permission and get the OK from Father God to fill our request. The Holy Spirit will than empower us to complete the will of God. (The request must be within the will of God)
Whatever you ask in My name, that will I do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. So now we know the request will be filled and the Father will be glorified through the Son's obedience. The bottom line is that God always gets the glory, and the final authority is with the Father, but our intercessor is always the Son Jesus Christ.
If you ask Me anything in My name, I will do it. And again, “I will do it. You may be sure I will: not only it shall be done, I will see it done, or give orders for the doing of it, but I will do it;” (Matthew Henry) “I think He means He will do it, Praise God!!!”
